Minimizing what you work hard at only lowers your value, because what you are saying is I don’t feel worthy of this, but you absolutely are, and if you are a person who does not like the spotlight like myself, it can be even more difficult to bring others into the mix to share in your success. That thinking caused me so much grief, because achievement alone does not bring happiness- its the way you feel about yourself without them. I’ve also learned not to focus so much on the end result, but to enjoy the moment. That is why I decided that I must choose to celebrate myself in whatever way feels good for me. Sometimes when you’ve been through a lot, it can feel that way, you wonder is this real? I had to be reminded that yes it is, and that I am deserving of the good things happening to me, whether I am celebrated by others or not. It’s hard for me to celebrate things when I don’t know what the outcome will be. Looking back I am realizing that celebrating is not selfish- its actually an act of self love that I have worked so hard to increase. I also thought of others more than myself and really did not like to make a big fuss about anything I have done. If I am honest, I could not really recognize the magnitude of what I had achieved because I always felt so heavy with responsibility and like I wasn’t there yet, wherever there was supposed to be. He encouraged me to do something fun for myself, he asked me what makes Vicky happy, and essentially made me think about what it really means to celebrate life. I heard him, I really did but I could not stop checking more things off my to-do list. Take a look at all you have accomplished. I could not be where I am today without you. I celebrate mother’s and daughters dedicating time to uplifting our souls and spirits. Whenever I get to walk or run with my mom it definitely encourages me. I appreciated my mom taking the time to join me in doing something that means so much to me. Today I honor my mom for her resilience and tenacity, dedication to her children and helping spirit. It makes a lot of sense considering my own relationship with running. I had no idea how fast she could run and also how much she used to run during school.
